3 min read

In celebration of International Nurses Week 2025, ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥'s Faculty of Health Sciences organized a successful Community Social Responsibility (CSR) Health Outreach Activity in GA. Villingili on May 3rd. The initiative, conducted in partnership with GA. Atoll Hospital and VCare Counselling & Psychotherapy Centre, provided vital health services and education to more than 180 island residents.

Accessible Healthcare for All

The carefully planned outreach program operated from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at two strategic public locations in GA. Villingili—near Esquina and near Twist Shop. This thoughtful placement ensured maximum accessibility, allowing healthcare professionals to connect with a diverse cross-section of the community, from youth to the elderly, creating a truly inclusive event.

"Our goal was to bring healthcare directly to the people of Villingili in a way that was convenient and welcoming," said a representative from ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥'s Faculty of Health Sciences. "By setting up in familiar, easily accessible locations, we were able to reach individuals who might not otherwise seek preventative care."

Comprehensive Health Services

The health program delivered a comprehensive range of services addressing both physical and mental wellbeing:

Physical Health Screenings

Nursing students and faculty members conducted essential health assessments, measuring participants' height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood glucose levels, and blood pressure. These basic screenings provided community members with valuable insights into their current health status and potential areas of concern.

Mental Health Support

Mental wellness was a key focus of the outreach, with VCare professionals offering screenings and guidance for individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, or other mental health challenges. Qualified professionals were available for one-on-one consultations, providing emotional support and information about additional mental health resources.

Women's Health and Nutrition Education

The event featured dedicated sessions on women's health issues, preventive care, and early detection methods. Nutrition experts were also on hand to provide advice on healthy eating habits, positive lifestyle choices, and strategies for preventing chronic diseases.

Contributing to Global Sustainability Goals

This community initiative actively supported several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

  • SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being)

  • SDG 4 (Quality Education)

  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)

The holistic approach of the outreach program aligns with the broader aims of all 17 UN SDGs, contributing to community development and wellbeing.

Honoring the Nursing Profession

Held during International Nurses Week, the outreach event served as a meaningful tribute to the nursing profession, highlighting the essential role nurses play in healthcare delivery, wellness promotion, and community service.

Positive Community Impact

The GA. Villingili community responded enthusiastically to the health services provided. Many participants gained valuable insights into their health status, with several screenings identifying issues that prompted individuals to seek follow-up care with healthcare providers.

The Power of Collaboration

The success of the GA. Villingili Health Outreach Activity demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when educational institutions, healthcare providers, and community support services work together. The effective partnership between ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥'s Faculty of Health Sciences, GA. Atoll Hospital, and VCare Counselling & Psychotherapy Centre was instrumental in delivering comprehensive care to the community.

As International Nurses Week 2025 celebrations continue, ÃÄÄïÖ±²¥ remains committed to honoring healthcare professionals and serving communities throughout the Maldives.
